It makes more sense to me that the people who go into politics and are successful are sociopathic or amoral, selfish toe-rags interested in lining their own pockets and boosting their own egos with wanton disregard for truth, honesty or decency except insofar as it impacts the impression they want to give of themselves.

I’m not aiming this at politicians of any particular party or nation, by the way. I refer to all of them, but in particular those in countries where government is controlled by a small number of political parties.
